If you go to a very small place, it's better ask if they accept any kind of card (specially credit cards) before buy something.
It's very rare, but in downtown, there could be places that does not accept credit cards. I live in São Paulo and I get really surprised when I go to places where they not accept them, but as I said, it's very rare. -

yes , and you can also take some money in the local banks but, to avoid any problems take some money in the pocket. enjoy brazil
