Buon giomo (good morning) we are finally in Venice where canals, streets, and squares are lined with palaces and chuches. Built on 118 tiny islands it spans over 400 bridges. -

I am going to be gone for a month. We will be traveling by Eurostar while in Italy so I have packed with 1 bag, my backpack, and a pag for my magazines. Let see if it works. -

Ok. I made it with 5 minutes to spare. Do t like it being that tight. The lady next tome is reading fifty shades of grey. Lady behind me said she was looking for it but the book store was sold out. Can't wait to start reading and se what it is all about. Sounds like I picked the perfect book to take on a trip! -

Good morning all. It's 7:32 am. I am still in bed. The windows are opened and the house is cool - feels wonderful! I can hear the sounds of the town waking up from outside. This could be a perfect moment now -no rushing, no working, just enjoying the moment! It was interesting last night. I had been reading my book -Fifty Shades of Grey and decided it was time to go to bed. Marsha had given me the remote to turn the light out -figured that one out. I tried to turn off the TV. For five minutes looked for a button to turn it off. Then the decision was made - I was going to bed and the tv could stay up if it wanted to. Someone has made coffee and I smell it. Think I will grab a cup and sit on the front stoop (stairs in new York) and watch the town wake up. -

We are about to leave for Manhatten for the 9/11 memorial. We found a phone application with an audio tour we downloaded. We catch the train to go into the City. It takes just about an hour on the train. Attaching picture of shuttle flying over Marsha's house. -

Attached is the new Freedom Tower going up at Ground Tower. I feel a little nervous about the memorial and the emotions it will bring. Grabbed a sandwich and headed there now. Will keep you updated. -

Just landed at Heathrow -London. We are taking a few minutes to freshen up in the first class lounge. Marsha is exchanging some money for pounds and then we will go to The Savoy Hotel. -
Met Marsha and Peter Scott for drinks tonight and had a blast. Came back to the hotel to pick up my camera and headed to the Thames River bank to take night pictures of Big Ben. - Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Tomorrow night we head to Venice. Had such a great time taking pictures today. It has rained most of the time that we have been in London but we have not let it stop us. Marsha finished working today and is now on vacation. We celebrated tonight. - Thursday, May 3, 2012

We have decided to go to Camden Market today. It has over 1,000 shops in an open air atmosphere. Marsha and I will take our cameras and play camera games. We started out this morning going to the Harley Davidson Shop for Marsha to buy t-shirts for her family. Hotel called taxi. It was just a 5 minute ride. We pulled In and I paid the taxi driver and got out. One if the cars leaving stopped the taxi as the store had just closed for the day. This shop was out by itself. If the taxi had left Marsha and I would have been footing it. Got back in taxi for plan B. went back to the hotel -asked the taxi driver to wait 5 minutes. Went back to room to get camera and backpacks. Back in taxi and heated to train station for Venice. The taxi is $10 and the train ride is $3.30 (it takes about 40 minutes) each way per person - not bad. Today is going to be more -

I needtoadd something to one of yesterday's post. Here at the hotel when you enter your hotel room - you place your room key in a slot near the door and this turns on your lights. Your room key stays in the slot until you leave your room. Well - I didn't know exactly how it worked. Yesterday morning when I was waiting on Marsha to get ready I decided that I would go to the front desk to ask about train itickets to Pisa. When I returned to the room - Marsha was sitting on the bed with wet hair. It seems that whe I took the room key out of the slot where I could get back in the room -she was in the shower. Removing the key turned everything off and she was in the shower. No water - no lights. All I can say is that you only do it once. - Tuesday, May 8, 2012

We are on the train now traveling to Florence. We will transfer to a regional train to Pisa. I understand that we have 20 minutes to transfer. That shoud be interesting. Nothing o sweet though - trains come in and out of Florence every few minutes. Even though we have a ticket for a particular time - they are more concerned that you have the ticket. Interesting thing - since we were worried about lifting our luggage onto the train we went up to where we thought the front of the train would be for our First Class seats. -

The train had one stop between Padova and Florence -Bogolna. A lady got on the train and said that I was in her seat. It seams tat first class is not always in the front of the train. There is a "bar" that separates first and second class. We had to pick up all our luggage and go back 7 cars. You would thing this would be easy. Everybody had their luggage in the hallway. Finally Marsha stopped
half way and said she would wait for our stop in Florence. I took everything but my big suitcase and left it in the front car. Found my seat I first class and left Marsha near car 4. First class isn't that great. What is good about it is you don't have all the luggage in the hallway from second class. We are nearing Florence. I am going to try to go back to car 1 where my luggage is and make sure Marsha is OK. I wonder how I am going to get my big bag down the train steps by myself. -
We are at the Florencetrain station now. We had a 20 gap to catch our planned train to Pisa we missed it don't worry - the next train to Pisa isin an hour. Marsha (being from New York) checked the board again. There was a train leaving in 30 minutes to Vinilgo that also went to Pisa Central. We were scammed at this train station. There were 3 young girls getting on the train with us and helped lift our luggage then one of them acted hurt and wanted money. She gave us a note written in several languages that said the 3 of them were
orphans and need money. Marsha in her New York voice told them to get lost. Herein the problem. When the helped us with our luggage - they lifted it on the top rack above our seats. I don't know jw in the world we are going to get it down. Oh well - we will figure it out. In order for you to understand - can you lift your largest luggage to the seat level if a chair? And then lift it another chair level again? That is what you have to do boarding the train. Did I mention that the train is not air conditioned? Also every seat is taken so you have to sit with your bags in your lap some of the time. -

Here is a photo that Marsha took on the train from Florence to Pisa. Marsha was trying to pull her luggage from second class to first class since we were in the wrong seats. As you can see - getting thru this mess was aggravating for both us and the other passengers. -

Ok I have found the place that I want to live in when I retire! Santa margherita , Italy!

This is the most Gorgeous place I have ever seen. I know that Venice is beautiful but this are is just as beautiful in a different way. We have decided we are going to change our hotel reservation and move to this area if Italy. -
We are having champaigne in Portofino - absolutely beautiful! -
