US President John F. Kennedy was assassinated on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, at 12:30 p.m. in Dealey Plaza. Kennedy was fatally shot while riding with his wife Jacqueline in a Presidential motorcade. This trip retraces the events of the day.
President Kennedy agreed to visit Texas during a meeting in El Paso, Texas on June 6, 1963 with Vice-President Lyndon B. Johnson (a Texas native), and Texas Governor John Connally. The purpose of the trip was to fundraise for the Democratic Party, begin President Kennedy's quest for reelection in November 1964 and mend political fences among several leading Texas Democratic party members. The Dallas trip was first announced to the public in September 1963. The exact motorcade route was finalized on November 18 and announced to the public a few days before November 22.
