Definitely on the seedy side, but it's where The Lost Boys was filmed, so a good place to stop if you're feeling nostalgic. Just be sure to leave before sundown. -

Another must-see. Big Sur isn't really a town, so be sure to book a place to stay beforehand. Big Sur Lodge isn't bad. -

After one visit, you'll understand why people think of LA the way that they do. It's an interesting place, and a lot safer than it used to be. If you have time, take a walk around the Venice Canals (ask someone for walking directions from the boardwalk) -

A great place to walk and a nice beach. I think this is what people imagine all of California is like. -
