The Missile Mystery (Solved?)

The nation was captivated by reports of a missile launch off the coast of California captured by a KCBS news helicopter around 5:00 PM PST on Monday, November 8. So far, the most likely explanation is that what appeared to be a missile was actually the contrail from a jet at altitude. We did some research and have identified a commercial flight path that would have crossed over the vicinity of the sighting: US Airways Flight 808 from Honolulu International Airport (HNL) to Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX). ATC logs and flight path information put the flight in the right position at the right time to have created a contrail visible to the KCBS chopper pilot.
